RAW:Gimli is an ephemeral restaurant built on the frozen surface of Lake Winnipeg as part of the 2018 RAW:Almond Pop-up Restaurant series. The project makes use of almost entirely uncut and unfastened dimensional lumber bound to the ice surface with ratchet ties. The non destructive means of construction enables >90% of material to be returned to circulation and re-used. The project focuses on minimizing waste in a temporary structure and accelerating construction time in extreme conditions while maximizing the experience of diners with provocative architectonic form.
