Shimmerback

Manitoba Trails Design Competition Entry

Year: 2015

Team: Chad Connery and Anca Matyiku

A performative sculpture-space on the shore of Lake Winnipeg, Shimmerback is a totem interpretation of its local environment. Drawing its name and colouration from the region's greenback walleye, it stands at the shoreline in wavering iridescence, peering across the water as some strange and lonesome animal. Its shaggy coat of scales flutters and reacts the tireless wind as if the white tipped skin of the lake were slung across its frame.
